It takes maximum 30 seconds for an interviewer to build an impression about you. Many candidates do not get the job which they are suited for, and then they keep on thinking................why?
An interview does not depend entirely on 'how' you speak, but the 'way' you speak. An interview throws more light on your body language, then the words spoken by you. Some of the things which an interviewer notice while taking the interview, we will discuss below:
Importance of non-verbal messages
Sometimes what we say does not match with our body language, it puts a bad impression on interviewer because the interviewer notices non verbal more then the verbal, because non-verbal communication is well expressed, honest and specific than the verbal communication. Such actions reveal your inner confidence.
Importance of time
Time is a key factor in every field. An interview is an important appointment which gets you into the job. Being on time shows your interest in the job.
Waiting before interview
The time before interview at the reception sends non-verbal messages on whether you are confident, irritated or nervous, you don't even realize it. Sometimes decisions are taken before the interview. So be comfortable and relax, while waiting before interview.
Beginning of an interview
When a candidate enters the cabin, he should have a warm smile and firm handshake. Some candidates show nervousness by shaking hands weakly. Carrying the things more than you require puts a bad impression on an interviewer.
Grooming
Well dressed and groomed candidates put a lasting impression on an interviewer. Loud make-up, too much jewellery and tight clothes makes the interviewer uncomfortable and builds a negative image about you.
Body language during an interview
As you are in an interview, so keep yourself relaxed. Obviously they do not expect you to sit straight without any movements. It’s better to rest your hands on armrest of your chair instead of folding across your body. While talking you should maintain eye contact with an interviewer, it shows you are confident. Leaning back and looking down may be taken as lack of confidence by an interviewer.
Showing nervousness
Tapping your legs, playing with the keys, rings and hairs, looking at the watch again and again, drumming with your finger, clicking the pen continuously are some common examples which are not considered good from interviewer's point of view. Such thing shows that you are nervous.
The way you speak
How you speak matters a lot than what you speak. Your voice match with body language shows you are comfortable and relaxed, which permits them to express their excitement and interest while conversation. Low pitch, mumbling away, clearing your throats using “uhs” and “ums” shows that you are nervous.
Answering in the interview
During the interview, when you are asked to speak about yourself, means you have speak about your education, career planning, and your past employment because this will create interest in the interviewer. Talks related to your personal life will bore the interviewer.
Reading interviewer
As a candidate sends non-verbal messages, in the same way your interviewer does too. Leaning forward denotes they are interested and nodding shows he agrees with you. Folded arms, crossing legs, getting restless are signs that he does not agrees with you. Finger drumming, clicking pen continuously and other manners shows that they are not paying attention towards you. And if they don't maintain eye contact signifies he is not interested and wants to end the interview.
Strong windup
No matter how your interview worked out-be confident as you finish with the interview that leaves a good impression. Successful ending may help you get the job and open opportunities for you in future.
