Flexibility is not just a perk or negotiation for time off for the company. It is considered as strategic business tool to improve the productivity and quality of employee's life. The idea of empowerment comes from a group of field technicians, where they are require to meet the customers request within 2 hours time, while operating schedule of 24 hours, seven days a week. The main issue was, employees are leaving the department and budgets are cut down by overtime cost.

To overcome this problem, the team decide to design the work schedule again. By working 12-hours shifts from Friday to Sunday and a 4-hours shift on Monday, in exchange of this they reduce there workweeks by three and a half days. The remaining team work for five days a week and have weekends off. The team dropped there overtime cost by 36% and they are enable to fulfill the needs of the customers with the same staff, and reduce stress around them.

Employees should have freedom to schedule there own work time. This will help them balance their work and life issues and make them more productive.
