Downsize Decently


Downsizing is the greatest challenge against every organization in terms of retaining there top performers. Downsizing is very unhealthy solution, if used continuously without thinking. It can destroy the organization.

The way of treating downsized employees affects the morale and retention values of top performers who are not been downsized.

It is very difficult to downsize any one from the organization. It affects the management and teams. Both human and business is affected with it. They leave all the points towards layoffs till then its too late to plan adequately. Laid off employees get very angry and they start feeling helpless and de-motivated.

Effective downsize: When the organization is suffering from bad condition and they think that layoff is require in there organization. There are few principles to remember:

  • What is the problem too many people or less profit? If the company has too many people to attain the goals, then retain top performers require to achieve the goals.

  • Share the vision of the new organization among the staff and team only if necessary, otherwise it will spoil the future working of the company and continuous layoffs will take place only with little improvement in organizational efficiency.

  • Respect your people in the organization. Communication with them as much as possible rather than keeping information with you.

  • Provide enough space to your employees to accept and discuss.
