Preparing for the telephonic interview is just as you prepare for a normal interview. Make a list of your strengths and weaknesses, and also the list for the typical questions asked by the interviewer.
Keep your resume on the desk or stick it on the wall near the phone, so it will be easy for you while answering.
Don\'t make long list of your achievements.
Keep a pen and paper near you.
Switch off your call waiting, so as to avoid interruption.
If the time is not convenient, ask would you be able to talk sometime later and suggest some alternative.
Sit in the room, where no one can disturb you. Switch of the TV and close the door.
Practicing the interview
Talking on phone is not as easy as we think. It is always good to practice. Ask your friend or family member to take your telephonic interview and record it so you can hear your own sound over the phone. You can hear your “ums” and “uhs” and “okay” . You can reduce them from your speech. Also practice for the typical questions ask by your interviewer.
During the phone interview
Don\'t smoke, eat chew gum, avoid eatables, or any kind of drinks.
Keep a glass of water near you, in case you need it.
Keep smiling,this will give positive image to the listener and will change your voice tone.
Speak Slowly and Pronounce clearly.
Don\'t take their first name without their permission. Call them by their last name for e.g, Mr. or Ms. And their last name.
Avoid interruption while interview.
Take your time, think and answer the question properly.
Try to give short answer.
Remember your ultimate goal is to meet him for face-to-face interview. At the end ask if it would be possible to meet in person.
After the interview
Note all the things you were asked and what you have answered.
Don\'t forget to say thankyou. Follow with the thankyou note which show your interest in the job.
