How To Prepare For An Interview


An interview can be defined as oral communication between the interviewer and interviewee. In order to know the views, attitudes and ideas of the interviewee. It also enables the interviewee to observe the skill and ability of the interviewer. Interview is the test for both the communicants and parties involved in the action. Intelligence, knowledge, personal qualities, behavior and character are disclosed and both the parties should be well prepared. This process allow everyone to make some important decisions. The candidates think whether he should accept the job and the prospective employer think whether the applicant should be appointed, organization can be affected by such decisions.

Here are some suggestions advisable while facing an interview:

  1. Appropriate dress: A well dressed and groomed appearance is the best way to put first impression. It is not a time to make a fashion, so choose some professional outfit. And some necessary things like a hand-bag or brief case.

  2. Posture and carriage: Sitting and walking style of the candidates speaks about your confidence in front of interviewer. Carriage and posture should to be developed over a period of time and are necessary to make difference between inferior and careless attitude.

  3. Be confident: Self confidence is observed by the way you sit, you speak and you behave. It is necessary to behave in good and proper manner. Nervousness shows the lack of confidence and concentration.

  4. Prepare yourself mentally: The candidates should have all the relevant information about current events, domestic and international, and general topics. Mental status can be developed with help of some activities like reading newspapers, listening to radio and TV discussion, taking part in group discussion etc. The applicant must have all the relevant information about the company, its directors, turnover, and all other relevant information about the company.

  5. Review your books: The applicant should have all the knowledge about the subjects studied during graduation and professional examinations. Revising once is enough to solve the purpose. Applicant should be well prepared to answer the questions asked by the interviewer.

  6. Avoid guessing: In certain case where the applicant does not know the answer to the question asked by the interviewer. It is better to keep your mouth shut and admit that you don\'t know the answer. This reflects your honesty.

  7. Be clear and specific: The applicant should have the clear purpose and determination to know about the organization. He / she must ask some questions about the nature of work, benefits for employees, and other things about the working of the organization which is necessary to know before taking any decision.

  8. Know your worth: It is necessary to know about the salary, but do not bargain or compensate. Discuss this topic with your elders or experienced friends because it requires very careful thinking. Appraise ones training,experience, proved ability, needs is necessary in order to identify ones worth.

  9. Winding up: Many applicant are not sure when to leave. If the interviewer indicates that interview is over, collect your bag, wish him thankyou and leave. Some candidates forget to say thankyou because of nervousness.
