Every employees has the fear of layoff. It is very tough to understand why many employees are laid off. The employers would not tell such things to their staff, but the employees have to notice the signs, and analyze that things are not going well and they should start searching for a job.
If your company is taking some action that you feel your job is safe. But then also keep yourself aware of the signs, and minimize your risk of being layoff.
1.Hiring freeze: The company does not feel like filling the vacant position and will give those responsibilities to current employees. It is not fixed till when this freeze be continued.
2.Salary freeze: The company has decided to freeze the salaries for all the position for this year and not confirmed yet will it be same for the next year. The reason behind it budget cuts and maintaining the current benefits.
3.Budget cuts: Management start reducing approved budget proposals. The reason they give behind that “not a good time” and “want to discuss if further”.
4.Travel cuts: Reduce the number of annual conferences and it long time for staff to repay the travel expenses.
5.Streamlining: The company combine the area in order to report to fewer managers. So instead of reporting four different manager, you can see four area reporting to two managers.
6.Cancelling or delaying projects: Several projects are cancelled and some of them are delayed. The company does not give any specific reason but just say that they don\'t have enough resources to give them.
7.Management leaving: Management staff knows first about the layoff before the rest organization. Several management staff is the best person than anyone else to indicate that layoffs are just around us.
8.Cutbacks of support staff: Usually the support staff are the first one to bear the layoffs. Next is your area for hiring freeze and layoffs.
9 Rumor: The rumors are never correct,but then also keep your mind open when you hear about the future layoff. It can be false, but still it is better to get alert and ready than facing the worst afterwards.
10.Fail to achieve business goals and expansion: The organization is no more expanding and business goals are not being achieved from past few years. Infact some offices have shut down because of productivity concerns.
The job market is unstable place.So it is better to be prepared for the layoff and better your future will be. So always keep your eyes open to such signs and save your future.
