How To Offer And Receive Criticism

The two site things that we do are to give and receive criticism. We must examine both the sites of this exchange because if we have promised to our career and those to our staff. Then we will find ourself on both the sides of conversation. And these things make conversation more effective.

Select a proper time

A private session should be there for feedback purpose. Never conduct it if a person is really very stressed. In case it is urgent, then ask the person to meet you.

Keep yourself calm

The moment when you are upset regarding error, then don\'t conduct meeting at that time. Take a break and discuss when you become calm. During meeting, whatever feedback you get just keep yourself calm. If you can\'t control yourself, then stop the meeting and set another time to continue that meeting.

Send a clear message

Try to be precise in conveying your message. Let everyone know what is not working. Always criticize the behavior, not the person. The receiver should understand by asking some requesting question or comments from them. As the other person participate in the conversation, enables you to tell whether they understand the issue and your motivation for the meeting.

Start and finish

Many people start and finish the conversation with positive comments. If your positive comment is related to your good work, your critical message may get lost in the middle of the positive notes. Rather you can can start such as “I care for your success and success of your department. That is the reason I want to meet you.” And end with “I hope we can work together to get much better result.”

Check with human resources

If you are not sure that your criticism is appropriate or not, then take the help from human resources managers. Always stick to job performances issues -duties and tasks.

Avoid being repetitive

Don\'t hammer them again and again over their head. Fix a point and move ahead. Conversely, if you feel your manager is becoming repetitive. Just because they are nervous or they are not sure. Try saying “I am proud you come to me and I understand.”

When you receive criticism

If you do not have tactful critics , then focus on the issues. If you have to face an angry manager, keep yourself strong .

Don\'t argue with the criticism and accept it. Think about it after the meeting. If you feel it was not fair, schedule a follow up meeting.

Always tell the critic that you appreciate his interest. Direct feedback help us to grow. We may be out of track for a while and a little criticism can lead us in right direction.
