Qualities Required For Personnel Managers


The functions and qualification required for human resources /personnel manager vary from company to company in nature, size and location etc. The qualification and qualities applicable in general can be restate:

Personal attributes:

The personnel managers must have initiative, maturity in judgement and analytical ability. This will enable the personnel manager to aim both management and workers. The personnel manager should understand the essentials of human behavior and should be familiar with human needs, wants, values etc. Without these attributes motivation is impossible.

There are some personal attitudes which personnel mangers should possess:

1.Intelligence: This includes communication skills, understanding, instruction for language, mental ability, tact in dealing with intelligent people, policies etc.

2.Educational skills:The personnel manager have to teach employees about the organizational growth and needs to develop individuals. For this purpose the personnel manager should possess enough knowledge about learning and teaching skills.

3.Appreciative skills: The personnel managers should have the capacity to discriminate between right and wrong, fiar and unfair, advantage and disadvantage.

4.Executing skills: The management decision related to personnel issues with speed and accurate is expected to execute by the personnel managers. He should have the capacity to set the standards for performance, co-ordinate, control etc.

The personnel managers are also expected to possess leadership qualities like deep belief in human values, sympathy with human values, forecasting the future needs of employees, organization, government, trade union, society etc.

Experience and training attitude:

No doubt last experience has provided the experience in an appropriate environment and in the similar areas. Training in the areas like mental aspects, laws for labour and more particularly in personnel and general management is an additional benefits.

Professional attitube:

Finally, professional attitude are much more necessary according to the indian context. The job of personnel managers as in the case of other managers is getting professionalized. And should have the patience to understand the ability before offering advice. He must have knowledge about various fields like technology, engineering management, commerce, economics, science, sociology etc.
