Determining Training Needs In Your Organisation

New joinees in an organisation are required to acquire new skills. They should be motivated as it helps them to learn their skills related to the new position. Training an experienced person can be very difficult. To determine the training needs of individuals, managers use the following four procedures in their organization:

1. Employees survey: Managers and all other staff in the organizational are asked to describe their problems related to their work and what action should be taken to solve that problem.

2. Job requirements: Examine the skills and experience require for the specified job, those employees without necessary skills or knowledge become applicant for training program.

3. Performance appraisals: Work performed by employees is measured against the objectives established from their job.

4. Organisational analysis: The effectiveness and success of the organization in achieving its goal are analyzed to determine where differences exist. For example member with high performance rate or low performance records might require training.

Once the manager identifies the training needs of the organisation, he must take the next step towards training. Some common job training methods are job rotation - in which the employee work on series of job and learn many new skills; internship - in which job training also have some classroom sessions; and apprenticeship - in which the employees are trained with the help of highly skilled colleagues.

Off-the-job training is conducted outside the workplace but attempt to encourage the employees towards actual working conditions. This type of training includes a process in which training is given on realistic job setting but in a different room from the one in which they will be working. The aim behind this is to avoid the on-the-job pressure that might intervene in the training process.

To improve the effectiveness of managers in their position, management development is designed. Management development is become very common in recent years because of increasingly complex demands on managers and training manager is time consuming and unreliable process. Today companies are investing large amount for management development.
