Techniques To Prevent Interruptions At Workplace


Interruption is a very common problem at the workplace. While doing some important task, interruption comes across in some or the other way. How to overcome this problem and what can you do in such times? Below are some tips to prevent interruption:

1. Prevent walk-in visitors to avoid interruption. Put a sign on your door and close it.
2. Adopt open door policy. Open door means that you generally are available to talk with any level. But it does not mean you are always available.
3. You should give appropriate guidance to your assistant about what kind of interruption is permitted, so they can screen the visitors. The assistant should have the authority to divert the meeting to someone else.
4. Arrange your time according to priority. Complete important task in the morning, before any interruptions.

When they walk in   
-When a person walks into your cabin and asks for a few minutes, answer with 'sure’, how about if I come to your office this afternoon at 2pm? This shows your availability.
-If they say it’s urgent, ask them how much time his work requires.
-If they are telling some story, ask them to summarize it in one sentence.
-If they asking for some help ask them what solution they want?
-Agree to help them, but fix a time to do it.

Prevent them from staying
-When someone comes to your cubicle, immediately stand up. Then visitor is less likely to sit.
-Place something on your chair like your briefcase or handbag; this will help to discourage people from sitting.
-Tell the people that you have to go for an urgent meeting.

All these are certain ways to prevent interruption at your workplace.
